A Storytellers Heart, a Lawyer’s Logic, a Lyrical Ear
Kate Lawrence, (that’s me), is an independent audio producer.
I am a storyteller at heart, and what I love to create (and listen to), are high production, long form podcast series that follow a narrative through line, interwoven with history, knowledge, reflection, commentary and advocacy for how we can build a better, more equal world. A tall order.

Why Story?
The weaving of story and ideas is one of the best ways to captivate an audience, create engagement, understanding, shifts in perspective, and inspiration to act.
My favourite approach is to let the story lead, providing the natural stepping stones to draw listeners on, to learn and feel and want to know more. The most compelling stories have themes, but the ideas and insights fall out of the stories, not the stories dropped in to illustrate the issue.
Of course, sometimes the reverse is true, where the idea or topic is the through line, but this habit of abstraction disembodies our connection to time and place, senses and selves. Story brings us back, story creates us whole, and nothing can cast the spell of enchantment like story.

Along the way it explores the history and policies of Australia's broken housing system, and the politics of women's lives.
